Atletico Madrid Striker Diego Forlan Coveted By Flamengo – Report

Flamengo are aiming to celebrate their 100th birthday in style, aiming, according to L’Equipe, to complete a major coup on the transfer market by landing Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan.
Forlan has compete in Europe for the vast majority of his career, turning out notably for Manchester United and Villarreal prior to his move to the Spanish capital.
Though his spell in England was infamous due to his poor form, he rediscovered his goal scoring touch in Spain and has a remarkable record in La Primera Division.
In the international game, the 31-year-old has also caught the eye, most prominently in the 2010 World Cup, when he was outstanding for his country and ultimately won the Golden Ball award, presented to the outstanding player of the tournament.
For all his success, however, Forlan has never hidden his desire to return to the South American domestic game, with interest from Flamengo potentially opening the door a little.
A move is a great deal from fruition and indeed may largely be a dream on the part of the Rubro-Negro. There are still more than two years left on Forlan’s contract with Atleti, and the Spaniards will not be keen to allow a key member of their squad to depart for pittance.
There have been reports in Spain of late that the attacker is unsettled, but he has moved to rubbish these in recent times, affirming his commitment to his present employers.

Diego Forlan is not interested in leaving Atletico Madrid

Diego Forlan has stated that he would love to retire at Atletico Madrid after cooling reports he could return to the Premier League.

The Uruguay striker, who shone at last summer's World Cup finals, has been strongly linked with a move back to England.

But the former Manchester United striker is ready to snub the reported interest of Tottenham and Liverpool.

"I would love to retire at Atletico Madrid," he told Marca.
"But the board are the ones who decide and we must remember that.
"I have a contract and I'm very happy, and always answer the same when there are rumours. I've never said I wanted to leave.
"If offers come in, it's necessary to see what is best for the club and best for me.
"I have certain plans for the future, but things change and it is difficult to know what will happen, but I want to continue in Europe for as long as possible."

Shawn Michaels & Triple H ''Say'' Bill Goldberg Isn't WWE Hall of Fame Material

Although "The Showstopper" is retired from professional wrestling following a loss to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 and "The Cerebral Assassin" is out of in-ring action rehabbing an injury after an "attack" from "The Celtic Warrior" Sheamus on an episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, it doesn't mean that the two decided to stay out of the headlines.
No one can question the legacy that "The Game" Triple H and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels have made for themselves competing in World Wrestling Entertainment, not only as singles competitors capturing multiple championship titles, but together as one of the greatest factions in sports entertainment history, D-Generation X.
While they are surefire candidates to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame sooner, rather than later, they sure seem to have an opinion on another certain individual who seemed like a worthy candidate.
In a recent online interview to help promote WWE WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta, Georgia, Triple H and Shawn Michaels were asked about the possibility of seeing Bill Goldberg inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in his hometown, especially given rumors of a WCW-themed year.
"As far as the Hall of Fame goes, it's tough. We have a unique business, and we try to do a legitimate Hall of Fame. We try to honor the guys that deserve it. To the guys that go in, it's something special. I heard Hogan shit on it, but I don't think anything's special to him except for money," Triple H told Jason Kirk of SB Nation Atlanta. "Like, if you called Michael Jordan to put him into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and he said, 'Alright, but I'm only gonna show up if I get to play for the Bulls next year.'
"We get that all the time. We call a guy to honor him in the Hall of Fame, and he goes, 'I want to do an angle. I want a one-off. I need a hundred grand," Triple H added. "So when you say, 'What about Goldberg,' no offense to Bill, but you've got guys like Bruno Sammartino that were legends with longevity that should be in there, but they're holding out because they think they've got one more run. Just using Bill as an example, how many years did he wrestle? Not many."

Michaels also chimed in on the matter and had a little more criticism of the possibility of seeing Goldberg in the Hall of Fame in the future.
Shawn Michaels said blatantly about the prospect of Goldberg entering this year's Hall of Fame class. Not because he's not talented, but greatness doesn't happen in a few years. Greatness is established over a long period of time. We try to promote people and get them over, but you can't do it that quickly. In our line of work, there are other qualities that make somebody viable besides just whether they're tough or not. In every other line of work...like if you're a lineman who can't play, everybody knows you can't play."
However, Goldberg responded late last night about their comments and didn't seem to have much animosity towards their thoughts on his spot in the WWE Hall of Fame.
"I read HHH and HBK's views on the WWE HOF....everyone is entitled to their own opinion," Bill Goldberg said on his official Twitter account. "They do have a point if induction is based on tenure."
In all fairness, Goldberg should have respectfully asked about the long, great tenure of Koko B. Ware and maybe his case would have been made.

Degeneration X Appears at Atlanta Falcons NFL Game

Reader Steve Shreve attended the Atlanta Falcons home game win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday and passed along the following report on an appearance made by Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

Triple H and HBK were at the Georgia Dome before (Thursday’s) Falcons vs. Ravens game. The DX entrance theme started playing and they came out to cut a promo for WrestleMania 27. Shawn looked like he was enjoying himself while Hunter was mostly business.

Hunter was sporting a suit and clean face a la his blueblood gimmick. They talked briefly before doing the signature ‘Are You Ready’ bit. Trips explained they had to change it to ‘Rise Up’ instead of ’suck it,’ firstly because that’s the Falcons slogan this year, but also because they didn’t want to get in trouble.”

Hunter and Shawn couldn’t say it, so the Falcons told the Ravens to suck it via their win last night in what turned out to be a great game.

Atletico offer Spurs-target Forlan to Real: report

MADRID — Atletico Madrid have offered to sell Diego Forlan, voted the best player at the World Cup, to crosstown rivals Real for 18 million euros, a Spanish sports newspaper said Wednesday.
The news could come as a disappointment to Tottenham and Juventus, who are both reportedly interested in signing the Uruguayan striker, although it is not clear whether Real would be interested in the 31-year-old.
The daily Marca said the offer did not come to Real Madrid directly but through an authorized intermediary for Atletico.
The proposed price tag of 18 million euros (25 million dollars) would be just half of his buyout clause, and is negotiable, it said.
"Atletico intends to sound out the possibility of Forlan's transfer in January for one reason above all: the request of its coach Quique Sanchez Flores," said Marca, which did not quote any sources in the report.
Forlan has had a disappointing start to this season, scoring just three league goals, the last on September 11.
Marca said Real "for the moment is not considering buying Diego Forlan," but at the club "they have learnt to never say never."

Real coach Jose Mourinho said last month that he had no plans to sign more players during the winter transfer window.
Forlan left Manchester United - where he had two inconsistent seasons - in 2004 for Villarreal, who then sold him to Atletico in 2007 for 21 million euros.
He has since been an integral part of the Atletico side, which won the UEFA Europa Cup last season with the Uruguayan scoring both goals in the club's 2-1 defeat of English side Fulham in the final.
The player has twice won the award as the Spanish Primera Liga's top scorer and twice won the European Golden Boot.
He was also awarded the Golden Ball as the best player of the 2010 World Cup after grabbing five goals in tournament, in which Uruguay finished in fourth place.
Forlan indicated in an interview with Marca last month that he could leave Spain for the English Premiership if the right offer comes along.

Shawn Michaels To Promote WrestleMania This Week With HHH

Shawn Michaels said on his Twitter account this afternoon that he is flying out to Atlanta, Georgia tomorrow to promote WrestleMania XXVII alongside Triple H.

“I was gonna tell ya tomorrow on the way. But someone blabbed. Yes, HHH and I are going to Atlanta to promote Wrestlemania, tomorrow and Friday,” he wrote.

He then noted why he’s promoting the upcoming event and for fans to not get their hopes up on him returning to the ring.

“Easy on the hoping. It’s very simple. They asked and I said yes. I will always help the WWE when I can. It will always be home to me.”

Tickets for WrestleMania XXVVII go on sale this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. via the Georgia Dome box office, Ticketmaster, and by phone (800-745-3000).

Undertaker's Possible Last Ride and The Deadman's Road To WrestleMania XXVII

After being buried alive by his younger brother, Kane, the future is one big question mark for the legendary Undertaker.
Outside of the ring, another serious injury has forced The Deadman to the sidelines, and out of the storylines, once again.
The question on many wrestling fans' minds is: What does the future hold for The Undertaker?
The obvious answer for the immediate future is nothing. The Undertaker's latest recovery will take the remainder of 2010, and possibly the first part of 2011. Unfortunately, his status for WrestleMania XXVII is uncertain.
My gut tells me we'll see The Streak on the line in Atlanta. But who will be the challenger?
According to Internet reports over the past few months, one of three men will be across the ring from The Undertaker in the Georgia Dome Apr. 3.
After poor crowd responses to his clashes with The Undertaker, the early favorite, Kane, has fallen out of favor with Vince McMahon. Sheamus stepped to the forefront when Kane vacated the opportunity to challenge The Streak, but The Celtic Warrior is no longer the favorite to clash with The Deadman on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
McMahon's current favorite to take on The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII is none other than the leader of The Nexus, Wade Barrett.
The build seems obvious. The Undertaker returns at Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber to gain vengeance on Barrett for aiding in his burial at Bragging Rights. The feud builds, culminating in Barrett challenging The Streak.
But does anyone really believe Barrett could defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania?
We would have to go back to WrestleMania 22 to find an opponent that wasn't a serious threat to The Undertaker's WrestleMania win streak. Even with a WWE Title reign under his belt, Barrett would likely seem a long shot to end The Streak.
Regardless of who he faces at WrestleMania XXVII, the biggest question remaining for The Undertaker is when to hang the wrestling boots up for good.
Mark Calaway will turn 46 years old about 10 days before WrestleMania XXVII, and with a list of recent injuries that seems to grow by the week, retirement is becoming something that may be necessary much sooner than later.
There is no doubt WWE will take a huge hit by the retirement of The Undertaker, but the company took a massive hit last spring when Shawn Michaels called it a career.
I don't see Calaway hanging on longer than his body will realistically allow. Calaway has other ventures outside of wrestling that should keep him occupied when his storied career comes to a close.
I am as and big of an Undertaker mark as there is out there, and like many of The Undertaker's long-time fans, I'd love to see The Streak make it to 20-0 before Calaway calls it a career. Unfortunately, I don't think Calaway's body can take another year and another potential injury.
Calaway has often said he'd like Paul Bearer to return for the final run of the Undertaker character. With Bearer back in the WWE Universe, and a body that is beginning to betray him, look for WrestleMania XXVII to be the swan song for the legendary Deadman.
20-0 would be a nice way to cap The Streak, but 19-0 is just as good.
There likely won't be a speech on Raw the night after, like we saw from The Great One Shawn Michaels and 16 Time Champ Ric Flair.

Diego Forlan: The goals will soon arrive

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has insisted he is not fretting about his barren spell in front of goal.
The Uruguayan has twice won the European Golden Shoe during six prolific seasons in Spain with Villarreal and Los Rojiblancos, and this summer he finished as joint-top scorer at the FIFA World Cup™ with five goals.
However, after netting three times in his first two La Liga outings this season, Forlan has found himself stuck in a rut and failed to score in any of his last 12 appearances for Atletico.
You don't forget how to score goals and I'm not thinking day in, day out that I haven't scored. You need to be calm and nothing else.
Diego Forlan

The 31-year-old has rarely gone so long without a goal, but he is taking it all in his stride, telling AS: "Now the chances are not going in, but soon they will.

"You need to continue trying and I'm determined to do that. You don't forget how to score goals and I'm not thinking day in, day out that I haven't scored. The goals will soon arrive."

The former Manchester United man, who hit the post and was also denied by a last-ditch block during Sunday's 2-0 derby defeat by Real Madrid, added: "You need to be calm and nothing else.

"In the game against Madrid I had two or three chances, and the other day against Almeria the same thing happened. I feel bad for having lost the derby, but on a personal level I feel fine."

Atletico Madrid Coach Quique Sanchez Flores: The Result Against Real Madrid Did Not Justify Our Performance

Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores reckons that the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid on Sunday evening does not do justice to how the match transpired.
Los Colchoneros went two down in the opening twenty minutes but recovered to create a number of chances, only to be denied by the performance of Iker Casillas in the home goal.
Speaking to the media in the wake of the loss, Flores felt that his side deserved more from the outcome, saying, “We have been good, and the result has not done us justice. Two isolated moments have changed the game, but I have nothing to say to my players. All we needed was a goal, and we would have been in the game.
“I have not seen a lack of intensity from my players. We leave the Bernabeu after a very serious game after two early goals, and know that we rebuilt after that moment. We have forcefully demonstrated that we can compete with Real Madrid, even with two goals against.”
Flores also felt that his team should have been awarded a first half penalty when Xabi Alonso appeared to block a Sergio Aguero shot with his hand, adding, “The penalty was clear. We are not having any luck in that aspect, but the referee has been fine.”

Real Madrid 2-0 Atletico Madrid: Six-Minute Double Salvo Fires Los Blancos To Derby Victory

Real Madrid emerged winners in the first Derbi Madrileno of this season as they met heavy resistance from a hard-working Atletico Madrid in a fiery game tonight. Ricardo Carvalho opened the scoring in the early in the first half and Mesut Oezil added a second shortly after to give Los Blancos a two-goal cushion at half-time. There were no more goals after the break and the game ended 2-0.
Real Madrid started the game with attacking intent and tried to impose their style in the early minutes of the first half. Sami Khedira got the ball in the net in the seventh minute, but it was ruled out for offside. A goal for Los Blancos, however, was to come shortly.
The go-ahead strike came from an unlikely source in the face of Ricardo Carvalho, who scored his second of the season with a good finish from inside the box in the 13th minute, following a deflected through-ball by Angel Di Maria. This goal gave the hosts even bigger urge in attack and it seemed like another one is coming soon.
Six minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo fell softly for a free-kick on the right-hand side of the box, and from a seemingly harmless position, Mesut Oezil scored with a precise low shot in the left corner to double Los Blancos' lead.
Atletico Madrid managed to pick themselves up after the second goal and created a few good chances. In the 30th minutes Atletico Madrid had valid reasons to demand a penalty after a handball by Xabi Alonso in the box, but the referee was having none of it. Tomas Ujfalusi missed on good chance to score with a header in the 32nd minute and moments latter Jose Antonio Reyes forced Iker Casillas into a marvellous save.
There were no more goal in the first half, however, as Los Blancos entered half-time with a two-goal lead.
The second half got off to a stunning start as Gonzalo Higuain hit the post with a sweet volley moments after the restart. Real Madrid continued to dominate the game for the next ten minutes or so, but Atletico Madrid had not surrendered just yet.

Diego Forlan hit the post with a glorious volley in the 59th minutes as Los Colchoneros were pumping bodies forward. The ever-active Sergio Aguero was giving Real Madrid's defence some troubles, but looked too selfish and was lacking in his final ball. Juan Valera and Jose Antonio Reyes tried their luck from distance in the following minutes, but could not quite hit the target.
Near the eighty-minute mark Sergio Aguero was presented with a glorious chance on the break, but his low finish did not trouble Iker Casillas. Real Madrid were dealt a serious blow in the 82nd minute when Ricardo Carvalho was forced to leave the pitch with a nasty cut under his left eye. Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema had a chance each to make it three for Los Blancos in the remaining minutes, but could not add to the hosts' tally as the game finished 2-0.
Following tonight's result, Real Madrid are first in the standings, while Atletico Madrid are seventh. Los Blancos' next league game is a visit to Sporting de Gijon on 14th November, while Los Colchoneros host Osasuna on the same day.

Nani: Cristiano Ronaldo still helps me

Manchester United winger Nani admitted to still seeking Cristiano Ronaldo's advice even after he joined Real Madrid.
The Portuguese player has been in fantastic form for the Red Devils, scording four league goals so far, and attributed his growth to the help from his countryman.
"Ronaldo has been a big help to me all the way through my career," Nani said, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
"He gave me a lot of advice when I first came to Manchester when things weren't going so well for me. Since he moved to Real Madrid the support has continued.
"When we were with the national team, he said to me ‘you are in good form, now keep doing it because you are important for Portugal as well as Manchester United'.
"Yes, we are big friends. He can hear me out and listen so that's ok. Even though I am in Manchester and he is in Madrid he is always texting me and calling me to wish me well.

"Now, maybe United's fans are seeing the real Nani. They are happy with me and I am happy with myself - but I want to do even more."
Nani also gave manager Sir Alex Ferguson credit for his improved form.
"After I got injured at the World Cup, I came back stronger and with more confidence to play well and score more goals than last season," Nani added.
"I wanted to score more goals and get more assists and be in the team more and this has happened.
"The manager had a meeting with all the young players and he expressed how important we are to his plans.
"He also told us that we needed to keep improving because this is a big club and we have to be winning big trophies.
"To do that, he told us that every player on the pitch needs to think he can be the best in the world. He said we are here because effectively we are the best."
Nani added: "The younger players had to accept this responsibility.
"We have to be strong in our minds and when we get our opportunities on the pitch we have to think we can play well and be part of a winning team.
"Of course, I have been working hard to help my team win the games. Sometimes it is not possible to win every game, but I think my performances in the team have been very good."
Ferguson will certainly hope that Nani can keep to his current level of form, as United look to sew up their UEFA Champions League group qualification chances when they travel to Turkey to face Bursaspor later this week.

Cristiano Ronaldo hails Mourinho's spirit

Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his relationship with new boss Jose Mourinho - a man who he has not always liked.
During Manchester United's title triumph over Chelsea back in 2007, there were more than a few unfavourable remarks and reviews made by the "Special One" about his Portuguese compatriot.
Some of the more standout opinions Chelsea's Mourinho had about his then rival club's star player included "immature", "disrespectful" and "ill-educated".
But football can be a funny old game and both men now find themselves having to work together for a common goal - bringing the La Liga title back to Real Madrid.
In their brief time working together so far, they have certainly made an impression this season.
Overcoming a slow start, Ronaldo has fired Real to the top of the La Liga standings with an incredible 10 goals in his last four league games. After only a short time together, Mourinho is already considered as good as United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in Ronaldo's eyes.
"Mourinho is a good coach with a very clear philosophy. Now you can say, already, he is the father of Real Madrid," Ronaldo was quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying.
"He and Sir Alex are so very different but at the same time very similar.
"They share the experience, the winning spirit of victory. Of course, one of them is much older and they have lived through two very different stories.
"But I loved the time I spent working with Sir Alex and have great memories. We built a friendship and now I feel the same feeling with Mourinho. For me they are the two best coaches in the world.
"This year you can see that several things have changed: discipline, aggressiveness, style of play and the willingness to work hard and together towards the same goal. This season is very different from the past. Madrid this year is not last year. We are totally different. "
Mourinho, Ronaldo and the rest of the star studded Madrid team play at the San Siro on Wednesday night where they will put their perfect Champions League Group G record on the line against AC Milan.

Juventus' Transfer List Includes Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan

Juventus' compulsion for reinforcements in attack is driving them towards lucrative targets, as Atletico Madrid hitman Diego Forlan is added to the list.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Giuseppe Marotta is ready to take significant action and make his voice heard in Madrid.
Forlan is on top of the list, and dialogue will be opened during the winter transfer window.
Spanish reports have suggested Forlan could reconsider his future at the Vicente Calderon following an amble start to the season.
Although president Enrique Cerezo, who has been an energetic participant in Forlan's future discussions, said he wanted his man to opt out from leaving on Saturday, hopeful he shows fidelity to the cause.
Meanwhile, Tuttosport claims Juventus' pursuit for hitmen has been refined to include Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko, who on Monday said there was no contact with the Italian side.
Fiorentina's Alberto Gilardino is also in the spotlight. He could analyse his time at the Artemio Franchi following the Viola's stuttering start to the campaign - leaving Juventus with room to gambit.
