Atletico Madrid Defender Diego Godin Out For A Month After Appendix Operation

Atletico Madrid central defender Diego Godin will be out of action for up to a month after undergoing a successful operation to secure his acute appendicitis.
The Uruguayan was admitted on Saturday night suffering from severe abdominal pain, and underwent surgery immediately to repair the problem, with the player remaining in hospital under observation for the next three days.
Unfortunately for los Colchoneros, the period of recuperation from such a condition is likely to keep him on the sidelines until the beginning of December, meaning that he will miss a number of crucial matches.
In total, Godin is expected to miss seven games in all competitions, most notably the capital derby with rivals Real Madrid, and crucial Europa League encounters versus Rosenborg in Norway and Aris Thessaloniki at the Vicente Calderon.
Godin moved to Atleti during the summer from Villarreal after being a key member of the Uruguay squad who finished fourth at the World Cup in South Africa.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo concerned with Diego Forlan exit talk..

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has brushed aside talk of a transfer for under-fire hitman Diego Forlan.
The striker has struggled to flex his muscles this season, leading to speculation he has become unhappy with life in Spain, amid reports that Inter and Liverpool are after him.
However, any quick exit in January is unlikely and indeed Cerezo believes his man can improve.
"I hope to see [Diego] Forlan get back to his best," Cerezo told AS.com."Players can play where they like, but I don't know their intentions.
"In any case, the voices about him leaving have disturbed me."
After winning the Golden Ball in last summer's World Cup after bagging five goals Forlan has made a slow start to the season scoring just three times in eight outings.

The eventual winner will be the player who has achieved success in three fronts. Foremost, they should have had a strong showing for their club in the latter stages of the club season that just concluded just before the start of the World Cup in South Africa.there should have additionally transferred their league form into the world cup with their national sides- it helps if their national side is highly ranked in the FIFA World team rankings.
Considering the list is still long, I chose to be more frugal in my choices and bet on the following six in ranking order
1:Diego Forlan
2: David Villa
3: Cristiano Ronaldo
4: Lionel Messi
5: Daniel Alves

Stand Up For WWE

VinceVince McMahon:  i Asked you to Stand Up For WWE and You Did...
State Of Connecticut Threatens WWE Fans' Right To Vote

STAMFORD, Conn. – The right for World Wrestling Entertainment fans to vote was threatened Friday by Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz, who gave the authority to local poll workers to determine that if anyone shows up to the polls on November 2 wearing any WWE merchandise, whether it is a John Cena T-shirt or a Randy Orton wristband, they may be forced to go home and change, cover it up, or take it off in order to vote.

“Denying our fans the right to vote, denying them their First Amendment rights, regardless if they are Democrat, Republican or Independent, is un-American, unconstitutional and blatantly discriminatory,” said Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO of WWE.

Setting The Record Straight
Accusation:

“…its reputation as a business that turned a blind eye to steroid use and other activities by its wrestlers that some critics say have contributed to the deaths of a high number of them.”
Truth:
In virtually all instances, WWE is being blamed for the deaths of performers who were no longer affiliated with WWE in any way at the time of their deaths.
Since the formation of the company in 1982, five wrestlers have passed away while under contract with WWE. According to coroner reports, one individual died by accident, one by suicide and three by natural causes, specifically arteriosclerotic heart disease.
The Talent Wellness Program, fully funded by WWE, calls for regular cardiovascular testing and monitoring, ImPACT™ testing for brain function, annual physicals, medical referrals and blood screening of WWE Talent, as well as random drug testing.
WWE’s Talent Wellness Policy strictly prohibits the use of anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs, masking agents, the abuse of prescription medications, and the use, possession and/or distribution of illegal drugs.
WWE offers current and former talent who may have substance abuse problems complete drug rehabilitation at no cost to them. WWE is the only entertainment company that provides this type of assistance and ongoing support to its former performers.

Accusation:
“In 2009, the year that WWE received all $9.8 million in film tax credits, the company laid off about 10 percent of its global workforce, or about 60 workers.”
Truth:
The company participates in the tax credit program which is designed to grow the film and television industry in Connecticut.
WWE, like every other public company has a duty to its shareholders to take advantage of approved tax credits, just like other movie and television producers based in CT such as ESPN/ABC and GE/NBC.
The tax credits that have been properly taken by WWE have helped the company add approximately 60 employees, returning WWE to workforce levels existing prior to the workforce reduction in January 2009.
WWE pays out $60 million in annual salaries for employees based in Connecticut.
In 2011, WWE plans to add additional headcount for a WWE cable network, which when up and running is projected to add another 140 jobs in CT.
Millions of dollars are paid to the state of Connecticut in a variety of taxes by WWE, our employees (personal income tax, real estate taxes, sales taxes, etc.) and the company also employs local vendors and service providers that also end up paying taxes to the state.

Accusation:
“…the company had, in fact, retained lobbyists to represent the company’s interests regarding federal regulation of steroids, restrictions on adult-oriented programming and a host of other issues.”
Truth:
WWE has never spent one penny lobbying anybody regarding the federal regulation of steroids. WWE did incur legal fees associated with responding to requests for information from Congressional committees on its drug testing policies and in connection with WWE representatives appearing before Congressional staffers to testify.
Since WWE’s inception in 1982, WWE has spent a nominal amount of money on government relations for an entertainment company of WWE’s size. According to Open Secrets.org, the television, movie and music industry has spent $755,069,734.00 on lobbying since 1998. WWE’s total spend amounts to less than three-tenths of one percent of that amount during its entire 28 years in existence.
The overwhelming majority of the company’s government relations expenditures focused on the company’s Smackdown Your Vote! Initiative and Armed Services involvement with the company.
WWE pays gross admissions taxes on ticket sales similar to concerts or other live entertainment events in states that WWE is not regulated.

Accusation:
“… the fact that the merchandise sold by the WWE is manufactured in China.”
Truth:
WWE’s master toy licensee is Mattel; who manufactures all of WWE’s toys.
Approximately 90 to 95 percent of all toys purchased in the U.S. are manufactured abroad.
WWE does not manufacture any merchandise. Its licensing partners do.
WWE is a global entertainment company with business partners who are both US and international based. Those partners have employees all over the world.
Contrary to the assertion that our licensing program shifts jobs overseas, in reality, it creates jobs here in Connecticut for employees involved in product licensing, design approval, royalty accounting and the like.

Accusation:
“…the company…has been criticized for violent and sexually suggestive programming.”
Truth:
All of WWE’s programming has been TV-PG since June 2008.
Friday Night SmackDown, which made its network debut in 1999 has always been rated TV-PG.
87 percent of WWE fans say WWE content is appropriate for families.
Of the 14 million weekly viewers in the United States that watch WWE programming, six million are women

Accusation:
“Putting profits before people.”
Truth:
World Wrestling Entertainment first opened its office in 1983 with 13 employees. Today it employees approximately 600 people and pays out $60 million in salaries for those based in Connecticut alone.
WWE provides a comprehensive benefits package to all full-time employees including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and employee stock purchase plans.
110 employees have been with WWE for more than 10 years.
WWE has 140 Superstars and Divas currently under contract as independent contractors.
The average active roster WWE Talent earns more than $550,000 annually, with WWE covering 100 percent of all costs associated with any in-ring related injuries and rehabilitation.
In 2011, WWE plans to hire between 100-140 employees in anticipation of the launch of the WWE cable network.
WWE has a longstanding commitment to give back to communities through literacy programs, support of the military and their families, and a more than 25 year relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Accusation: “…the state Democratic Party has criticized…other business practices, particularly its classifying performers as independent contractors who do not receive health benefits from WWE.”
Truth:
WWE covers 100 percent of all costs associated with any in-ring related injuries and rehabilitation.
The Talent Wellness Program, fully funded by WWE, calls for regular cardiovascular testing and monitoring, ImPACT™ testing for brain function, annual physicals, medical referrals and blood screening of WWE Talent, as well as substance abuse and random drug testing.
WWE offers current and former talent who may have substance abuse problems complete drug rehabilitation at no cost to them. WWE is the only entertainment company that provides this type of assistance and ongoing support to its former performers.
WWE invests nearly $3.5 million annually in the talents’ health and wellness programs.

Accusation:
“The company also has been accused of looking the other way as wrestlers, feeling pressured to maintain the pumped-up bodies showcased in the W.W.E., turned to steroids.”
Truth:
WWE’s Talent Wellness Policy strictly prohibits the use of steroids, the abuse of prescription medications, performance enhancing drugs and the use, possession and/or distribution of illegal drugs.
WWE’s entire substance abuse and drug testing policy is independently administered by third party leading medical experts.
The Talent Wellness Program is designed to result in all WWE Talent being tested at a minimum four times a year, but may result in more frequent testing due to the random selection process.

Accusation:
“Lack of athletic-board scrutiny also ensured that the WWE’s wrestlers would not be subject to drug tests.”
Truth:
WWE is still regulated in 21 states and the District of Columbia, where rules and regulations can differ. The company's Talent Wellness Program is far stricter than any medical or drug testing required by the states.
Much like Ringling Brothers Circus and Harlem Globetrotters, WWE is sheer entertainment and therefore should not be under the purview of the antiquated rules and regulations of State Athletic Commissions.
WWE pays gross admissions taxes on ticket sales similar to concerts or other live entertainment events in states that we are not regulated.

Accusation:
“The allegations against WWE seem to be criminal in nature…because allegations about independent contractors are investigated by the Department of Labor and the Department of Revenue Services...”
Truth:
WWE has always complied with the law, and constantly reviews its internal practices and procedures to comply with ever-changing employee laws.
For the entirety of WWE’s existence, WWE talent have been classified as independent contractors and not employees.
There is not now, nor has there ever been, any criminal investigation into WWE’s treatment of its Superstars as independent contractors.
WWE’s treatment and reporting of its talent as independent contractors has never been challenged or questioned by any federal or state regulatory body during the entirety of WWE’s existence.
Up until this election, WWE has not been investigated in the past for independent contractor classification.

Debate: Who Was Better? Degeneration X or New World Order?

Rebellious. One word to describe both DX and the NWO. These two stables dominated WCW and WWE television in the late 90s. Sparking the Monday Night Wars, and taking pro wrestling entertainment to another level. One moment at Madison Square Garden brought about the beginning of both stables.
The Curtain Call. When Shawn Michaels, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash broke kayfabe to hug at a house show. Hall and Michaels were face at the time, while Nash and Hunter were indeed heels. Hall and Nash were on their way to WCW, and Shawn was the WWF Champion.
When the incident was illegally taped by a fan, most were outraged. Vince was ok with the situation but because it being blown out of proportion, someone had to be punished. That left Hunter with the consequences. Which were dropping down the card for a few months.
But it benefited the WWE in the long run. The WWE had planned for HHH to win the King of the Ring that year. With winning the honor, a push usually comes with it. So Stone Cold Steve Austin took Hunters place and push which began his rise to the top.

The Kliq was over. Their influence on booking was dead. But bigger things were to come.
With a little convincing from Hunter and Michaels, Degeneration X was brought on screen by Management. Being joined by Chyna and Rick Rude, DX feuded with the Hart Foundation. After defeating The British Bulldog, Michaels held both WWF & European titles officially cementing their status as WWF's top stable.
Though Michaels time in DX would be short lived. After purposely dropping the European Title to HHH, he faced Steve Austin at Wrestlemania XIV. Losing the WWF title and beginning the Attitude Era.
A back injury forced HBK to retire, and HHH exiled him from DX.

On the other side, The Outsiders took a different approach. After contributions from Bischoff, Nash, and Hall, they decided to have WCW "invaded" and destroyed by other wrestlers. Being that they were freshly released from WWF, the two perfectly fit the bill.
Nash and Hall interrupted countless matches and continued to cause mayhem only to be confronted by Lex Luger, Macho Man, and Sting.
Leading to perhaps the biggest heel turn of all... well for now. When The Outsiders took on their three foes in a Hostile Takeover match. Basically a six man tag. Though they never revealed who the "third" man was.
After some back and forth action, including the exit of Luger during the match, Hulk Hogan stormed to the ring. Momentarily running Nash and Hall off before leg dropping Savage, cementing his heel status.
Shocking starts for both Stables, though NWO's may have been more effective.

After numerous new members, and turmoil in the both groups, the original incarnations disbanded in 2000.

Only to be reformed by the WWE. The three original NWO members began assaulting top WWE Stars like The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. After Hogans departure due to a face turn, guys like HBK, and X Pac joined the NWO. Only to have Nash injured, and Michaels entering a feud with HHH.
DX was reformed as a tag team back in 2006. Ending their four year long feud, Michaels and HHH feuded with Edge, Orton, and the McMahon's. A injury to HHH, kept ended the reunion prematurely. Rejoining once again last year to become tag champions for the first time.

Shawn's Retirement permanently ended Degeneration X

Edge To Smackdown: 5 Things We Want To See Happen

1. The Royal Rumble

Edge was the 2010 Royal Rumble winner. Returning from an injury and sporting a giant caveman beard, he ran to the ring, first eliminating his eventual Wrestlemania opponent Chris Jericho, and then surviving to the end.But can our Rated R Superstar win the Royal Rumble two times in a row? Sounds like a feat that is impossible, but it has been done three other times.
1990 and 1991 were won by the immortal Hulk Hogan.
1995 and 1996 were won by the legend Mr.WrestleMania Shawn Michaels
1997 and 1998 were won by the icon Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Does Edge have the chops to stand among those three? Hard to say. These days, you would think a challenge like that could only be beaten by John Cena or Triple H.Speaking of those two, this year's Royal Rumble takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, the home state of Mr. John Cena. It is very possible that Beantown may see the franchise player once again win a Royal Rumble, if he is not dethroned by a returning Triple H.But the question is, who will be the Heavyweight Champion come 2011? My guess is…
2. The Face Turn

Edge has always been a bit of an anti-hero, even back in the day of E & C as tag team champs. Sure, they may have mocked your city when you were there, but they did it with comedy. The closest he got to truly being on the dark side was his allegiance with Vickie Guerrero, those dark days when no one enjoyed watching the Rated R Superstar smooch with a self-proclaimed cougar. After all, the images of the beautiful Lita and Edge having their in-ring celebration still danced wonderfully in our heads. But in a true Face move, when Edge showed up on Friday Night Smackdown, he was introduced by the General Manager Teddy Long. His music hit, out he came through the smoke, and as he soaked in the cheers of the fans, he shook Teddy’s hand. Sporting his sunglasses, he hit the ring and mounted the ropes to allow for that Kodak moment and pose for the fans. He then went on to mock Swagger and his eagle mascot—I know its name, but as I agree with Edge and find it stupid, I’m not writing it here. What’s humorous is that over on Raw when CM Punk showed up, he also got a huge response and cheers from the crowd for heading back to the Monday night show. To cement his position as a heel, however, he proceeded to beat babyface Evan Bourne to a pulp after he had already received a victory.
3. The War on Stupidity

Edge has declared war.
All things that are stupid within the WWE are forewarned: digital general managers, eagle mascots, Michael Cole, and apparently scarves. The thing is, there are a lot of stupid things within the WWE. How far will Vince let Edge go with this?
We’ll see, but I see a whole lot of potential feuds brewing for Edge to dive headfirst into. This move by the WWE is genius. While they could easily read on fansites what we don’t like and then just change it or make it disappear (e.g. the great Khali), they have now given the WWE Universe fans a voice. Edge will be the one to say “apparently the Undertaker's weakness is a flashlight in a vase?” It’s really just a matter of time.In the following slides, let's look at the upcoming pay-per-views and potential targets of Edge's War on Stupidity.
4. Alberto De Rio

At the past pay-per-view, we got a taste of the two of them going back and forth on the mic, and we saw the energy that was happening, obviously building towards something.
I’m becoming a fan of Alberto. I see him being very similar to the late, great Eddie Guerrero(RIP) in his mannerism, his moves—he even sounds like him a bit. A battle with Edge has amazing possibilities. Their skill sets match nicely, and I see them putting on strong, solid matches with back-and-forths as quick and slamming as their work on the mic.Alberto could be Edge's opponent for TLC and win the IC belt, putting gold around the waist of Alberto and moving Edge on to the heavyweight title—or at least to the next big pay-per-view, which is one of my personal favorites…
5. Christian

The members of one of the greatest tag teams of all time end up at war with one another, and finally, it’s for the gold and on the grandest stage of them all.
The dynamic on the microphone would be unparalleled, the shots back and forth claiming who carried who over the years. A battle of "brothers" and the destruction of the Franchise that was Edge and Christian, created 13 years ago. This match would be just as important to watch as whomever was taking on Undertaker's streak. Knowing how each of them work and how they work together, they would tear down the house.
Who’s the face and who’s the heel?
Who walks out alive?
What would be the stipulation?
So many possibilities and the greatest winners of all would be us, the fans.

Overrated Orton: Is WWE Champion Randy Orton Really the Future?

Wrestling as a concept is relatively simple. Good battles evil, for ultimate supremacy. The former will always win but only after a long and bloody series of engagements.Maybe in the PG era, they are no longer bloody battles, but the concept nonetheless remains the same.
Stone Cold may have changed the essence of being a face, but when he got cheered for his 3.16 revolution, he instantly became source of good.
Since the inception of the modern era, wrestling has returned to the world of cartoons. Gone are the edgy and controversial, and its place, warm and harmless characters. The firing of Bryan Danielson was the epitome of what would happen if this new era was threatened.
Hopes that Danielson might fire the first shots against PG or at least return as an edgy superstar, have thus far
failed to materialise.
Wrestling needs leaders and while Triple H and the Undertaker remain firm fan favourites, there is a need for further representation on RAW. Question remains whether Orton can provide this long term.
At present, Orton is popular. His reception is strong and the reaction to the RKO is reminiscent of the Stunner. The problem for the Viper is that his character is not only limited but he is also a victim of his environment. And for this reason, he cannot be the leader of the WWE.
Orton is a typical heel or anti-hero. But at present to sell this image, the worst he can do other than a few stomps and a DDT, is to hit an RKO and a punt. There can be little else.
In the old days of wrestling, you would simply throw a few chair shots or bleed your opponent to be instantly regarded as aggressive. Both are now out of bounds.Maybe you can cut a Stone Cold promo and declare to the world a new revolution but its arguable that Orton's mic skills are not strong enough to do this. You need the energy and raw power of Austin, and Orton simply does not have this. His deficiency on the mic is well masked by the slow and methodical approach which in turn sells his snake like personalityOrton's greatest asset in addition to his heritage is his age. Aged just 30, a full year younger than Mike McGillicutty, Orton is perhaps destined to surpass the championship achievements of Ric Flair and Triple H and John Cena. Marked from the beginning as a Champion, Orton has already SEVEN world titles.Need a comparison, that is already more than The Great Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Randy Savage and equal to that of the Undertaker. Does Randy Orton really offer that much to wrestling? All wrestlers are systematic. They have a basic concept and its one they replay over and over again. For the characters to last however, amendments are needed though often its only a matter of turning face or heel. The likes of Undertaker, Hogan, and Shawn Michaels have lasted for decades repeating this pattern.

What really has changed with the Undertaker in twenty years? Very little fundamentally but its what has happened, that makes me wonder whether Randy Orton deserves his position of power.

The Undertaker as a concept is limited. The dominant force beating all, would have grown tired had he not added things to his repetoire. His character went from strength to strength because of the promos, interviews, the new match types and his mystique. The entrance of the Deadman is something truly magical even after twenty years. But for Orton where are these qualities? There is only so many people he can kick so where is the room to adapt? He rarely does interviews, he does very few promos, he has offered nothing new in terms of new match types. This leaves only his snake like personality. And this can only have a limited half life. Its ironic that for Orton to succeed, he actually needs to turn heel again. In the era of PG, there is no direction for him. His inability to offer any energy in terms of interview or promo leaves him reliant on a fixed number of moves and actions. Unlike Austin who has mic skills, Orton has no means of selling himself. Orton can become a heel again and succeed, only because thats the nature of his real life character.Orton's arrogance and backstage power makes him an unlikeable champion. Maybe all new superstars have this arrogance - certainly the Klique did, so maybe Orton is following a tradition. But his involvement with Ken Anderson and Kofi Kingston makes for a track record.
Money seemingly dictates power. Sell enough and you can succeed. Sell more than anyone else and the company will do what you want to keep you happy. Orton like Triple H, can be said to have created their own success.

Are either really better than Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart?
And yet they have more titles.Orton will remain popular as long as Cena is a face. Maybe thats his success - he is not Cena. The reaction of some fans to Jericho and Edge in recent times, is an indication that some look for superstars who are anti-establishment.Orton despite his power backstage is the epitome of anti-establishment at present. He is not Cena, he does wish to be face. And yet marketing this so called 'snake like psychotic' as a face during the PG era makes for a difficult sell. His attempts at being a face look awkward and even uncomfortable for him.The future of wrestling is hard to predict but I would not be surprised to find that by Wrestlemania XXVII, Randy Orton had turned heel once more. As I will argue, its the only place he can go to succeed long term.

But as with all heels, no matter how many times they win, they will always lose in the end.

Crowd Trouble Mars Italy Clash

ITALY'S Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia was abandoned last night because of crowd trouble.

The match was halted after just seven minutes in Genoa when Serbia fans threw flares on to the pitch.
When the game restarted more fireworks landed on the playing area — one just missing Italy goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano — forcing Scottish referee Craig Thomson to call off the game.
Kick-off had already been delayed by 45 minutes after some supporters tried to cut through fencing outside the ground.
Even before the delay, Serbia's normal starting goalkeeper, Vladimir Stojkovic, asked not to play following threats outside his hotel earlier, according to reports.
The match was meant to be played in memory of four Italian soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said: "I've never seen anything like it."

Chris Jericho: Why The Walls He Built Will Never Be Broken

Born into the world nearly forty years ago in a fancy city known as Manhasset, New York was Christopher Keith Irvine.
We know this man as Chris Jericho.
Jericho was born in New York, as the son of former NHL Hockey player Ted Irvine. However, he was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Week after week since around 1996, Jericho has been rocking our hearts out and thrilling us with this in-ring dominance and his impressive mic skills.
Chris Jericho also sings in a rock band known as Fozzy, but his heart has always been with wrestling on a full time basis.
Jericho's biggest day in the WWE was when he defeated The Rock and Steve Austin on the same night in a tournament that also featured Kurt Angle at Vengeance.
It was on this night he became the first ever undisputed champion of the WWE Heavyeight Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship of WCW.
Jericho's WWE career achievements could increase in his final years, however, he is a lock for Hall Of Fame at this point.
Jericho is a five-time World Champion along with this WWE Undisputed Championship victory.
He has also won the Intercontinental Championship nine times, which is highest number of reigns in history for that title.
The most memorable match in Jericho's career for HBK MANO has to be his battle with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XIX in Seattle.
If it wasn't for the epic Rock/Austin match later in the night, this match would of easily stole the show.
With his catch phrases over the years, "Cmon, Baby!", "Raw Is Jericho", "I'm the Ayatollah of Rock... and Rollah", he will always be remembered by, Jericho is truly a one of a kind wrestler.
Jericho also trained in the Hart Brothers Wrestling School, which needs no introduction.
I can honestly say it has been a pleasure watching Jericho over the years and he seems like a company man for the ages.
However, it is with some sadness that I know his age has got to put his career in jeopardy at some point.
I would like to see a few more big title wins for Jericho and a big WrestleMania match for a send off for the ages.
While his music claims that he is going to, "break the walls down." It is worth noting that, the walls Jericho has built in his career will be climbed by many, but never climbed over, or broken down.
So the next time you see Chris Jericho in an arena near you, it could be the last time you see him. So bow, say thank you, stand in clap. Better yet, keep booing him and making him more famous.

Here You Can Ask Me Anything  Whatever You Want About WWE...or About HBK MANO ...

WWE and TNA Legend, Kevin Nash, To Retire After Bound For Glory?

It is being reported via Twitter that Kevin Nash, a.k.a Diesel, is to retire after this weekend's Bound for Glory PPV. There have been long-term rumours about Nash and the direction of his character, but this latest tweet would certainly be the clearest indication that he is done with wrestling.
If it is confirmed, then it has many ramifications for the TNA locker room. With Nash gone, any chance of an nWo reformation with Sting is over, as would any chance of Scott Hall returning following his current rehab. Nash's departure also seemingly ends this mysterious storyline involving Hulk Hogan, whereby a grudge has been revealed but not actually explained.
Maybe it is the case that Hogan and Bischoff, are "they" and Nash knew it all along, but we will have to wait for the PPV.
The career of Nash has largely been a good one. Whilst some might question his role in the downfall of WCW, and that fingerpoke finish, Nash is still a popular figure amongst wrestling fans. His retirement will see the end of an era, given that Hall, Sean Waltman, and Shawn Michaels are largely done with wrestling as well.
Only one remains of the Madison Square Garden Kliq.
If this news reported is confirmed, could it be that one of the marque names for next year's WCW themed Hall of Fame might be therefore Kevin Nash and/or Scott Hall? Certainly their role in revolutionising wrestling can never be forgotten.
When they invaded WCW in 1996, it was the start of something truly special.

Atlético jostle for position as group stage begins

Club Atlético de Madrid begin their title defence against Aris Thessaloniki FC when the group stage commences on Thursday, with ten former UEFA Cup winners also in action.

The race to reach the 2010/11 final at the Dublin Arena steps up a gear next Thursday when all 48 teams begin their UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns.

Holders Club Atlético de Madrid were the only automatic entrants into the competition proper but have already added a European trophy this season with their UEFA Super Cup success against FC Internazionale Milano last month. They begin their campaign away to Aris Thessaloniki FC of Greece, with Bayer 04 Leverkusen playing Rosenborg BK in the other Group B game, but there is pedigree aplenty elsewhere in the competition, with ten former UEFA Cup winners among those taking part.
Juventus and Liverpool FC, both three-time winners of that trophy as well as past European champions, welcome KKS Lech Poznań and FC Steaua Bucureşti respectively, while the Bianconeri's Group A rivals, ambitious Manchester City FC, travel to FC Salzburg. Another Austrian side, SK Rapid Wien, accounted for one of a host of upsets in the play-offs when they beat Aston Villa FC for the second successive season and will look to continue their progress at the expense of another former champion, FC Porto.
Galatasaray AŞ, Fenerbahçe SK and Celtic FC were among the other high profile play-off casualties. Their respective conquerors, FC Karpaty Lviv of Ukraine, Greek side PAOK FC and Eredivisie outfit FC Utrecht, will seek to spring further surprises against BV Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge KV and SSC Napoli. FC Lausanne-Sport of the Swiss second tier are perhaps the most unexpected contenders following victory against FC Lokomotiv Moskva but will find little respite when they play another side from the Russian capital, 2004/05 UEFA Cup winners, PFC CSKA Moskva.
Sevilla FC, who lifted the UEFA Cup in 2006 and 2007, are among ten teams transferring from the UEFA Champions League play-off round and face a tough start to Group J against Paris Saint-Germain FC. Other eye-catching Matchday 1 fixtures to include teams dropping in from Europe's premier club competition include UC Sampdoria's trip to PSV Eindhoven, the visit of FC Zenit St. Petersburg to RSC Anderlecht, and FC Dynamo Kyiv's home game against FC BATE Borisov

New deals for Reyes, Ujfaluši, Assunção

Club Atlético de Madrid received a welcome boost as José Antonio Reyes, Tomáš Ujfaluši and Paulo Assunção all signed new contracts but Sergio Agüero has provided an injury scare.
José Antonio Reyes, Tomáš Ujfaluši and Paulo Assunção have all signed contract extensions with Club Atlético de Madrid.

Reyes, 27, has agreed a new three-year deal tying the former Sevilla FC and Arsenal FC winger to the Vicente Calderón until June 2014. Defender Ujfaluši, 32, and midfielder Assunção, 30, have committed themselves until summer 2013.
The trio were central to Atlético's UEFA Europa League triumph last term, although the Liga side have endured a difficult start to their trophy defence, picking up just one point from two group games. Next up are Rosenborg BK on 21 October, when Sergio Agüero is expected to be available despite tearing a gluteus muscle in training on Sunday.
