Sergio Aguero out of Copa Del Rey second leg

Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of the Copa Del Rey derby to played in the third week of January.

Aguero has suffered a leg injury which will keep him out of action for a minimum of two weeks.

His exclusion would deal a major blow to Atletico Madrid, as the side now have to host rivals Real Madrid at Vicente Calderon. The Argentina international went through medical scans, which confirmed that the player had a crack in his fibula. The doctors have advised a minimum rest of two weeks before another scan will reveal the extent of his injury.

Aguero would consult medical experts for a timeframe of his return and the rehabilitation programs which would be needed to heal the injury in the right way.

The injury period of at least two weeks means that Aguero will miss fixtures against Mallorca and Sporting. Also, he would play no part in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey, further depleting the chances of Madrid to qualify.

The youngster is one of the few big names left at Atletico Madrid and has managed some impressive performances with the side. In total, Aguero has scored 14 times in the 2010-11 season from 22 appearances, which is an impressive record for a 22-year-old.

Recently, Aguero signed a six-year contract with the club. Apart from the first season, Aguero has managed to score more than 20 goals in each of his 4 seasons with the club, along with providing more than 10 assists. These are extraordinary statistics for the player, who would be missed by his team during his lay-off period.

Atletico now have a big task on their hand as the side has to overcome a 3-1 deficit against Real Madrid without Aguero. This is huge task given the form of the Los Blancos, who have lost just once in the 2010-11 season. It would be up to Diego Forlan to take up the challenge in the absence of Aguero.
